Castro de Vaituille

"This month I'm bringing you Castro de Vaituille, a Mencía from Bierzo by Raúl Pérez that will not leave you indifferent. Elegance, terroir and a personality you rarely find in a glass."
Castro de Vaituille is one of the great wines of Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most celebrated winemakers. Made from old-vine Mencía grapes on slate soils in Bierzo, hand-harvested and aged in barrel to enhance without masking the fruit.
In the glass it shows a deep cherry red with violet glints. On the nose it is expressive and complex: red and dark fruits, violet, slate and a unique floral note. On the palate it has body but with a surprising Atlantic freshness, fine tannins and a long mineral finish. Perfect with our cured meats and aged cheeses.

An unexpected gem
An unexpected gem in O Calvario. A great wine selection at good prices and a small but carefully curated menu. Don't leave without trying the Garavato loin. We'll be back.
What I loved most was the tranquillity of the interior terrace and how modern the place is. I'll definitely be back!
We popped in for a drink and were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere, the varied tapas menu, the black pudding and the attentive service. We'll be back to enjoy the terrace.
